Workington made amends for their horror show at Stockton with a much more acceptable performance against the strongly fancied Hednesford.

This was Workington’s heaviest defeat on the road since……their last visit to the MAP Group Stadium ten months ago.

A stoppage time winner from the visitors was tough to take on the opening Saturday of Workington’s season.

Josh Palmer blasted The Atoms almost single-handedly, scoring a magnificent seven at the Falcon Complex in a pre-season encounter.

Reds completed their protracted pre-season programme with a less than convincing performance over United’s talented youngsters.

Reds strolled to a comfortable straightforward victory in their penultimate pre-season outing with five different scorers sharing the goals.

The Young Reds continued their preparation for the new season and, in particular, the FA Youth Cup which commences in just over a month.

Workington left it late to clinch victory over Step 4 opposition in the first ever meeting between the two sides.

The Development Squad did something that the first team couldn’t manage to do – record a victory at Palmerston Park!

Another good exercise for Darren Edmondson’s re-shaped squad with twenty outfield players each playing forty-five minutes.

There is always a bit of intrigue surrounding the first pre-season outing – how will the team play, what systems will we use, who are the trialists etc. etc?

Who’d be a goalkeeper?  Hero one minute, villain the next. And that was the scenario at Borough Park with fate dealing Reds’ on loan...
