The Young Reds conceded a goal in each half to end their interest in the JPL Cup. They had beaten Albion convincingly in their league meeting three weeks earlier but, although they had their moments, were second best on this occasion.
A bright start saw Alfie McDonough go close in the opening ten minutes, only to be thwarted, twice, by the Albion ‘keeper.
The hosts got on top and dominated much of the first half, scoring the opener from close range after Joe Rumney could only partially save the original shot.
The visitors were much better in the second half without creating many clear-cut opportunities, but allowed Albion to double their advantage with a goal via a quick counter-attack.
McDonough almost grabbed a consolation goal towards the end but, overall, they were a bit below par.
“We huffed and puffed but weren’t at our best today and were punished by a better opponent,” lamented lead coach, Conor Cooke.

Team: Rumney, Gaskell, Telford, Jackson, White C, Cueto TJ, Amor, Thompson, Rogers, Pickering O, McDonough. Substitutes – White L, Hodgson, Fulton (all used).
