MATCH REPORT: Witton Albion U18 2-4 Workington AFC U18

It was another early start for the young Reds but, undeterred, they put in a tremendous performance in the mid-morning kick-off and toppled the league leaders in Cheshire……for the second successive season.

But they had to do it the hard way after finding themselves two nil down at the interval.

Reds kicked off but Albion countered and were a goal up inside the first minute and they doubled their advantage before the break. It was a bit harsh on the visitors but they kept their heads and turned the game around in the second half.

Harrison Telford started the revival ten minutes after the restart, scoring with a fine twenty-five yarder.

Soon after, Reds restored parity after a good three man move involving Oscar Pickering, Joe Carney and Jayden Fulton culminated in the latter finding the net from the edge of the box.

Matthew Jackson then scored his first JPL goal when he powered home a header via a Carney corner and Reds were in front for the first time.

Then to complete a remarkable fightback, Pickering netted Reds’ fourth goal chipping the ‘keeper with a sublime finish.

Team: Joe Rumney, Luke Routledge, Harrison Telford, Matthew Jackson, Charlie White, TJ Cueto, Ryan Handford, Ted Thomson, Jayden Fulton, Joe Carney, Harrison Rogers. Substitutes – Liam Gaskell, Liam White and Oscar Pickering (all used).
