A warm feeling emerged at a bitterly cold Borough Park as Reds emerged deserved winners against promotion chasers, Hednesford.

Both Reds and Hednesford Town have the same objective over the final month of contrasting seasons.

Reds will take a break from the pressure of relegation worries on Tuesday when they head for Frenchfield, Penrith to take on Kirkoswald in the Cumberland Cup semi-final (7.45pm).

A tense nervous affair with both teams all too aware of the importance of this fixture.  But Workington, when not at their best in a poor first half, did not flinch and, ultimately, just about deserved three priceless points.

Workington arguably had the toughest task, with their game at Nethermoor, but extended the unbeaten run to six games with a battling performance.

Reds head for the ‘white rose’ county this weekend and, whilst it is always a good match day experience at Guiseley, imagine what it would be like if we actually won there for a change.

Workington’s great start to the calendar year continued with a third successive, hard-fought home win leaving them unbeaten in six, with just one loss in ten.

Not knowing which league you are going to be in from one season to the next has its advantages and disadvantages.
