Paul Stewart applied for Reds’ job

Perhaps the most interesting application for the recently advertised manager’s job was from Paul Stewart.

We are not talking about the Blackpool based England international, who starred for Reds during the 98-99 and 99-00 seasons, following a distinguished career serving the likes of Blackpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Burnley, Sunderland and Stoke City.

The CV came from eleven years old, Paul Stewart, a schoolboy who lives in Carlisle.

His salary demands were certainly within the club’s parameters – just £25 per week – although, because he didn’t drive, he did ask for a chauffeur driven car to get him to training.  And he did say he might not get to some training sessions if the burden of homework was too great!

Director, Richard Lewthwaite, was so impressed with Paul’s determination to become the latest occupant of the Borough Park hot seat, he invited the youngster to Workington’s last home game as a special guest.

Paul was given a brief tour of the stadium and met the players and staff in the dressing room before having the obligatory photograph taken on the pitch with a club scarf!

  • Board members are now sifting through some of the older applicants who also applied for the post.
