Sad loss for Cumbrian football

Sad news emerged from Penrith Football Club on Monday when the Bonny Blues announced the passing of well-respected chairman, Brian (Billy) Williams.  It follows a terminal illness over recent months.

Like the wider Cumbrian football community, all at Workington are saddened to hear of Billy’s passing and our condolences go to the immediate family and friends and all at Frenchfield – the committee, officials, management, players and supporters.

Billy was a well-known figure in the game throughout Cumbria and beyond, a fine ambassador for Penrith Football Club.  He has always been an ally to Workington AFC, a respected football man who became a close friend.

We are all shocked and saddened to learn of Billy’s death today.  As someone who had played for, managed and ran the football club, he was held in the highest esteem by all at WAFC.

He was always happy to share his knowledge and experience and has helped our club so much, particularly over recent years.

His loss will be felt throughout the Cumbrian football fraternity and our thoughts and good wishes go out to Billy’s family and everyone at Penrith FC at this difficult time.

Penrith will be organising a special tribute prior to their opening Northern League fixture at Frenchfield on Saturday.
