Reds will launch their FA Trophy campaign with a first ever cup-tie against FC United of Manchester. The Moston boys make their second visit to west Cumbria in a month following September’s goalless draw at Borough Park.
That was a close game which might have gone our way so Darren Edmondson will be hoping for more of the same in the knockout competition.
There has never been much between the teams in seven previous league encounters with Reds winning three, FC United successful on two occasions and the other two meetings resulting in draws.
Mark Beesley’s side arrived in Workington as league leaders a month ago after an impressive start, but the goals have dried up in recent weeks and they will be hoping to get back on track and take advantage of our winless sequence at Borough Park.

Reds are still beset with injury problems but Ceiran Casson should come into contention for a recall after missing the last six games. Greg McCaragher is likely to feature although only one of the Carlisle United loanees will be allowed to play.
FCUM will become the 73rd different team we have met in the Trophy, Altrincham were the first back in 1977, but our recent record in the competition isn’t good with just one victory recorded in the last six outings.
The match will be decided at Borough Park and via a penalty shoot-out if the game results in a draw.
