MATCH PREVIEW: Reds hope to ambush the Highwaymen

Many Reds supporters are suggesting that Saturday’s NPL Premier Division fixture against Morpeth Town at Borough Park is a ‘must win’ game.

Well, that won’t be easy against opposition we have never beaten in a Northern Premier League encounter.

Historically, it is a relatively new fixture and the weekend clash is only the sixth tussle under the NPL banner.

The three meetings at Craik Park have all resulted in straightforward home wins with Reds failing to score in each of their visits to the picturesque venue.  And the two previous tussles at Borough Park have ended all square with a 2-2 draw the outcome on each occasion.

The only time we have tasted victory against the Northumberland outfit was in a FA Trophy tie at Borough Park last season.

Town have lost two more matches than us but have won twice as many games as we have managed.  They have amassed five points more than we have with their eight victories and four draws leaving them on 28 to date.

Reds will have ten games left after Saturday, five away and five at home and have amassed 23 points from their four wins and eleven draws.

The meeting in the north east back in October finished in a comfortable 2-0 home win for Town thanks to goals from Nic Bollado and Dan Myers.

The personnel in both camps has changed considerably since then but, regardless, it will be a typically tough NPL battle.

Workington have been guilty of playing well in long periods of games but unable to retain concentration over ninety minutes, a failing that has resulted in far too many points dropped in the later stages of matches.

Kick-off 3pm.
