MATCH PREVIEW: Reds help charity cause

Billy Barr will take his squad to Whitehaven on Tuesday (7.30pm) for their third pre-season outing.

They will take on the West Lancashire League outfit in the annual Shaun Hocking Memorial Trophy contest, a game that raises funds for one of the lesser-known charities – the British Polio Association.
And there will be plenty of familiar faces in the Whitehaven squad with Brian Dawson now running their first team, which he has supplemented with the bulk of Reds’ successful youth team from last season.

Like Reds, Whitehaven have had two outings so far and, after a comfortable 2-1 victory at Millom, they then lost by the same score at Kendal Town at the weekend. Those results suggest that it will be a closely fought affair, unlike last year when Reds strolled to a 5-0 success.
Billy Barr was waiting to asses the aftermath of Saturday’s exertions in the Barrow heatwave but, if feasible, would like to rest one or two of the senior players ahead of Friday’s historic fixture v. Carlisle United.

Regardless, the bulk of the squad will feature against Whitehaven who are hoping to redeem themselves, following relegation at the end of last season.
Admission: adult - £5, concession and U12 - £3
