Preparation for next month’s start to the Northern Premier League campaigning to continues on Saturday when the Reds travel to play neighbours Penrith (3pm).
It will be a swift return to Frenchfield for Darren Edmondson who managed the Bonny Blues until the end of last season, before committing to a second stint in the Borough Park hot seat.
For obvious reasons, the Penrith fixture has become a regular feature on the pre-season calendar and Reds will turn-up at Frenchfield for the tenth time, at this time of year, since their first visit fifteen years ago.
Edmondson, himself, is familiar with the fixture having been involved on both sides of the fence. As Penrith boss, he has won once and lost twice whilst, with his Reds hat on, he has won twice and lost once.
It will be another ninety minutes of graft towards attaining decent levels of fitness against Jim Nichols’ side who start their season a fortnight before Reds.
The Penrith boss is also making a return to a former club having previously been in charge eight years ago.
Workington have six training sessions and an encouraging performance against Queen of the South behind them now and will probably take a 22-man squad to Penrith – a mixture of the committed, trialists and Development Squad members.
The manager will be without some players for this game but is expecting a near full complement for the home match the following week.
There is ample parking at Frenchfield (CA11 8UA).
