It is with sadness that we report the passing of our former player-manager, Gordon Livsey. He was 79.
Born in Keighley in 1947, goalkeeper Gordon played in the Football League for Wrexham, Chester and Hartlepool United but was probably best known for the service he gave to Kettering Town, over 300 appearances in three spells with the Poppies.
Gordon was appointed Workington’s first manager after our demotion from the Fourth Division in 1977 and made his debut, as player-manager, in a pre-season game against Queen of the South.

His NPL bow came in our inaugural fixture v. Stafford Rangers at Borough Park.
His stay in Cumbria lasted just five months and he left Reds the week before Christmas, then spending brief spells with Hartlepool and Scarborough.
Gordon made 22 NPL appearances for Reds, keeping six clean sheets in the process, plus two further outings in cup matches – the latter in the FA Cup v. Grimsby Town at Borough Park.
We send our condolences to his family and friends.
