FA TROPHY DRAW: Quick return for FC

Updated: Sep 24

Monday’s FA Trophy Draw will mean a quick return to Cumbria for league rivals FC United of Manchester.

Less than a month after the 0-0 league draw at Borough Park, the two sides will meet again in the first ever cup meeting between the sides.

The third Round Qualifying tie will be played on Saturday 4 October with £2,450 winning prize money up for grabs.

The match should pull in a decent crowd, this fixture always does, and Club officials will hope for a repeat of the 900 attendance for the recent league fixture.

Reds have been lucky with recent draws in the Trophy with the FC United tie the sixth successive home match in the competition. They haven’t made home advantage count, though, with Bamber Bridge, Hyde United, Runcorn Linnets and Dunston all winning at Borough Park in the last four seasons.

It is a good opportunity for Darren Edmondson to extend his impressive record in the competition with Reds having overseen nine victories so far. He experienced some notable performances in the Trophy in his first spell with the club and none more so than that famous 3-2 away win over AFC Wimbledon fifteen years ago.

Workington also received a home draw in this season’s FA Cup, but lost to Stalybridge Celtic, whilst the Youth team have been given home ties against Penrith and Spennymoor Town and if they win the re-arranged game v. the latter on Friday another home tie v. Hartlepool United awaits.
