The Borough Park farewell

The Borough Park farewell celebrations got underway with the reunion of all reunions as former Reds players travelled from near and far to be a part of the iconic stadium’s last day.

And the star of the show was Bill Scott, a spritely 92-year-old who played for the Reds in the fifties.

Mark Arrowsmith, now a golf professional, travelled up from Cornwall whilst former Football League stalwarts, Ron Walker and Dave Butler, are based in the London area and John Ogilvie lives in Edinburgh.

Billy Gilmour, after a recent four-month stint in hospital, was determined to make the event and did so, albeit with the aid of a wheelchair.

Over sixty players attended a lunch time rendezvous at the Helena Thompson Museum but more turned up at the stadium for the emotional ‘lap-of-honour’, enthusiastically received by the sun-drenched supporters on the terraces.
