MATCH REPORT: Workington AFC U18 4-1 Sunshine Coast U18

Another first for the young Reds with their ‘home’ fixture against the Shropshire based academy taking place at Darwen FC, a half-way venue to ease journey time.

A similar arrangement was made for the October clash between the sides.

Reds U23 also played at neutral Darwen earlier in the season.

Despite the unusual logistics, Reds turned on the style and were dominant from start to finish, producing probably their best display of the season so far.

The Australians did equalise with one of their few shots on target but, otherwise, Reds were in control.

They broke the deadlock after fifteen minutes with the in-form Harrison Rogers creating a chance for Jayden Fulton who netted confidently.

The lead was short lived with Sunshine Coast restoring parity five minutes later.

Two further goals before the interval restored Reds’ dominance, Harrison Telford headed home the second and Joe Carney the third from close range.

Rogers completed the rout, and another fine personal performance, with a fine header in the seventieth minute.

“The second half was, perhaps, the best forty-five minutes we have played this season, seeing plenty of the ball and creating numerous chances,” commented delighted manager, Conor Cooke.
