MATCH REPORT: Squires Gate 0-3 Workington AFC U23

Reds extended their winning sequence to thirteen matches after completing a Lancashire League double over Squires Gate at The Brian Addison Stadium.

It was a fairly even contest in the early stages, on an uneven surface, the hosts then had a decent spell but Reds were in control by half time and never loosened their grip.

Two late goals in the first half made matters more comfortable and, overall, it was a straightforward win from a team including seven of the 18s squad.

Harrison Rogers netted his first goal in the Lancashire League with a tidy far post finish in the forty-first minute to open the scoring, and Reds doubled their advantage with a well-struck Rob Davidson effort from just outside the area, soon after.

The third goal, which secured the points, came five minutes before the final whistle and involved the lively Rogers down the left. He pulled the ball back for Liam White who added to the goal he bagged against Gate in the home match with a firm finish.

The U23s still have home and away games to play against nearest rivals, Ashton Town, as well as testing fixtures at Kendal Town and Lancaster City, so plenty to do before they can contemplate becoming champions.

Team: Joe Rumney, Luke Routledge, Owen Johnston, Louis Pickering, Callum Bell, Rob Davidson, Zach Benson-Lester, Jack Burns, Shane Tyson, Joe Carney, Harrison Rogers. Substitutes – Liam White, Ryan Handford, Ted Thomson (all used).
