MATCH PREVIEW: Yorkshiremen go to war

Two proud Yorkshiremen will go to war on Saturday as Lincolnshire take on Cumbria in Northern Premier League action.

Billy Barr will take his Workington team to Gainsborough for an important league encounter against Russ Wilcox’s Trinity at the Kal Group Stadium (3pm).

Both teams will be hoping for maximum points, for different reasons.  Trinity need to maintain their excellent form since the turn of the year to boost play-off aspirations whilst we need to improve on a quite moderate record at Northolme.

It hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Reds over the years and they have failed to win in their last eight visits.  Indeed, their record against Trinty in fifty competitive games is poor and the head-to-head reads Gainsborough 24 wins, Workington 11 wins.

After winning at Borough Park back in October, Trinity’s league form suffered for a while as they battled on three fronts – the league and two good cup runs.  They got through four qualifying rounds in the FA Cup before eventually falling to Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup first round and also recorded two victories in the Trophy.

However, they are now fully focused on the league and have been in decent form since the turn of the year, collecting thirteen points from their last six matches.  They are currently 7th with 43 points but have, at least, two games in hand on the teams above them in the Premier Division table.

Their tenth win (2-1) at Borough Park was obtained via first half goals from Lewis Butroid and Frank Mulhern and was prior to Billy Barr’s appointment.

Barr should have a stronger squad with three players, who didn’t feature last week, available for selection and attempts to add to the group have been ongoing.
