MATCH PREVIEW: The longest day

Having already completed four of their five shorter journeys, Reds face a long day on Saturday as they travel to play their Premier Division fixture at Ilkeston Town.

The Derbyshire Reds sit in 15th position, six points better off than Darren Edmondson’s side, and fresh from a 2-1 success at Leek Town last time out. They have had an ‘up and down’ season so far, winning four and losing seven of eleven league matches played.

Until the last two seasons, Workington enjoyed an excellent record at the New Manor ground. They had won on four consecutive visits but were thrashed 6-1 there in 2023 and, a more respectable 0-1, last March.

Edmondson, once again, will have to name a team from a depleted squad and recent signing, Greg McCaragher, won’t be available either. His ‘International Clearance’ has been processed but he will have to complete a suspension following a sending-off for former club Gretna 2008.

Mileage: 206

Postcode: DE7 8JF

Kick-off: 3pm

  • There is football at Borough Park on Friday evening with the U18s hosting Spennymoor Town in the FA Youth Cup (7.45pm).
