MATCH PREVIEW: New manager bounce

Reds and Guiseley go into Tuesday’s Premier Division encounter hoping they can continue their improved run of results following a recent change of managership.

Guiseley appointed Ian Richards before we made our change and, although they lost his first game in charge, they have picked up two draws since.

Billy Barr has overseen a win and a draw in his opening two games so there is no disguising the importance of what could well be the last midweek fixture at Borough Park (7.45pm).

Both clubs will also be hoping their current league positions are temporary as they attempt to climb to safety. Guiseley sit in 18th place at the moment, having obtained 16 points, whilst Reds remain at the foot of the table with 13 points to their credit.

The head-to-head reveals that the teams have met twenty-six times in the Northern Premier League and Conference North and there is no doubt the Yorkshire club have the upper hand, recording sixteen wins in the series compared to just the four Workington successes.

And of the thirteen meetings in Cumbria, Guiseley have only left empty handed on three occasions. Most recently, back in January, they won here 2-0 completing their fourth league double at our expense.

Billy Barr, born just fifteen miles from Guiseley and a proud Yorkshireman, will be keen to continue the mini unbeaten run but gave an honest assessment of the 3-3 draw at Rushall Olympic on Saturday and knows certain aspects of the display have to be eradicated.

Reds have the second leakiest defeat in the division but Guiseley have experienced similar defensive woes and clean sheets have been in short supply for both.

Barr may have to make changes after two injuries were sustained at the weekend but all the suspensions have been wiped out.
