MATCH PREVIEW: Good record will count for nothing

Workington’s decent record at the Towbar Express Stadium will count for nothing on Saturday (3pm) as they attempt to obtain a first league win in nine outings.  They take on a Whitby Town team who will be favourites for the points in the 14th versus 21st encounter, with the hosts attempting to complete a first ever league double at Reds expense.

Traditionally, we tend to do better on the east coast with just one defeat in nine league visits whilst Town have won five of their ten games at Borough Park.

Their most recent success was five months ago when they completed an opening day 2-1 success in Cumbria, thanks to a 93rd minute winning goal from Connor Smith.

And late goals conceded have haunted us at regular points throughout the season, with the mental problem epitomised in the disappointing 1-1 draw last time out v. Lancaster.

When we met in August it was a nice pleasant summer’s afternoon but Whitby, like most areas of the UK, has had to deal with ice, snow and rain in the past couple of weeks so one eye will be kept firmly on the weather forecast over the next couple of days.

Whitby have lost their last two home games but drew with Guiseley and won impressively against Rushall Olympic and Hednesford Town prior to that.

Former Carlisle United duo, Gary Liddle and Jason Kennedy, are in charge of team affairs at the Turnbull Ground and another familiar face, Matty Tymon, is still a valued member of the squad.

Billy Barr will be without the suspended Charlie Barnes and Brad Carroll, the appeal against the latter’s red card was rejected, as was Barnes’ earlier.

With injury worries and departures, Billy won’t be able to name his squad before the final training session
