MATCH PREVIEW: City and Reds looking up

We end a hectic August with our first ‘derby’ of the new season as our Bank Holiday Monday takes us to Lancaster City.
The mid-table battle at the Giant Axe (3pm) falls as both teams have hit form after indifferent starts. Jimmy Marshall’s Dolly Blues have won at Bury and Guiseley in the last week – two outstanding results probably not predicted outside of Lancaster.
But Billy Barr’s team have kick-started their campaign with three successive victories, two at home and one on the road.
The two go into the eighth league fixture with ten points, both having won three and lost three of their opening seven games.

Last season, City attained an excellent 6th position, just missing out on the play-offs by one point. They obtained 62 points, a total which included four at our expense. The Borough Park clash resulted in a 1-1 draw on New Year’s Day after we fell at the Axe (0-2) twelve months ago.
None of Monday’s anticipated starting XI has scored for Reds at Lancaster but Ted Thomson did find the target there, last season, for the U23s.
The fixture has a long history and our first ever point in the Northern Premier League was from a goalless draw against City…..forty-nine years ago!
A good following is expected to travel down the M6 for what is our shortest journey (86 miles) of the season.
