MATCH PREVIEW: Back on the road

It will be club before country on Tuesday as Reds travel down the M6 for their NPL Premier Division clash versus Warrington Town at the GXO stadium.

And subject to fitness assessments after Saturday’s battle with Cleethorpes Town, manager Billy Barr will probably rely on the same squad that extended the unbeaten league run to seven matches.

Town have been distracted by cup matches in recent weeks and will be keen to get back on track with their league programme.  They made a great start to the season, particularly on the road, and are currently 6th in the table with seventeen points.

But whatever happens, Reds fans will be of the opinion that our visit to Cantilever Park on 18 April will be voted best away day of the year.  That was when we completed the ‘great escape’ at Town’s expense winning that ‘must win game’ 3-2, having trailed by two goals at half time.

Can lightning strike twice in the same place?  We certainly hope so but are under no illusions about repeating that memorable result in what will be our twelfth league outing.

Paul Carden’s squad have gone out of the Trophy and FA Cup recently and will be well motivated to return to winning ways in the league and avenge our victory there six months ago.

It has been a happy hunting ground for us in the past and we have only failed to score there once in eleven visits.

It’s another busy week with the squad facing the long trip to Quorn at the weekend.

One game at a time, though, and the focus for now is very much Warrington Town.
