Five years after leaving the Lancashire League, Workington have been re-elected to the predominantly mid-week competition after a summer re-think over the pathway to first team football.

They will still operate an Under 18 team in the JPL but have now entered an U23 squad in the West Division of the Lancashire League to improve the continuity pathway between youth and senior football.
Reds Reserves resigned from the Lancashire League in March 2020 when football was suspended because of the Covid outbreak. They became established members over seventeen consecutive seasons and although, more often than not, found it tough competition, they did emerge title winners in 2008.
The structure of the League has evolved over the years and now focuses on U23 personnel with Reds’ opponents for the new season to include: Ashton Town, Blackburn Eagles, Croston Sports Club, Fulwood Amateur, Kendal Town, Macclesfield, Squires Gate, Thornton Cleveleys, Turton and Winstanley Warriors.
Craig Johnston and Carl Short will oversee matters for the U23 side with Conor Cooke and Gary Jackson in charge of the JPL team.
The respective campaigns will start in September but both sides will play a series of pre-season matches during July and August.
