On this day – 14 July

Reds have experienced mixed fortunes on the 14th July in recent pre-season outings – going down to a narrow defeat at Annan and emerging comfortable winners a bit nearer home at Whitehaven………..

We conceded two sloppy goals inside the opening twenty-five minutes of our game at Galabank and generally had a frustrating night against Annan Athletic.

Stuart McColm netted both goals for the hosts and our consolation from Kyle May was converted in the final minute.

In between, Conor Tinnion (pictured above) had a lobbed goal disallowed, after straying marginally offside, hit the cross bar when it looked easier to score and picked up a yellow card to cap a disappointing night.

Our second friendly eight years ago was the annual game at Whitehaven which, on this occasion, was played on a Saturday afternoon.

Whitehaven, who had just appointed Stuart Green as their manager, started brightly but Reds were the better side overall and eventually won 3-1 with a bit to spare.

Mark Sloan opened the scoring but Matty Tymon, in between spells at Borough Park, headed the equaliser.  A fine Jake Simpson volley restored Reds advantage before half time and Ryan Hall netted a third mid-way through the second period.
