MATCH PREVIEW: Please stop raining

Club officials and ground staff will be hoping for an improved weather picture with Borough Park due to host the Cumberland Cup semi-final on Wednesday (7.45pm).  County League side Maryport Athletic, given a home tie in the draw, have conceded home advantage but will still be in confident mood against Danny Grainger’s NPL outfit.

Karl Skillen’s side are on the brink of landing the Cumberland County League title and have put together a tremendous winning sequence of fourteen matches in all competitions.

They have progressed to the last four of the County Cup after impressive victories over Cockermouth (5-0), Wigton Harriers (4-1) and, particularly, Windscale (3-0) and are enjoying their best ever season since their formation a decade ago.

Their squad is littered with players who have featured for Reds (first team and Reserves) in the past and will provide a much tougher contest than they have experienced against other County League sides.

Danny Grainger will give the utmost respect to the underdogs and the bulk of his first team squad will be on duty.

The final has been scheduled for the 23 April at Borough Park with Carlisle United awaiting the winners.
