MATCH PREVIEW: Final fortnight

The season is rapidly drawing to a close and Reds will play their penultimate home game of the NPL Premier Division campaign on Saturday (3pm).  Old rivals Marine travel to Borough Park for what will be the thirty-fifth league meeting between the clubs.

And it is an important game for both teams – Workington hoping to end a five-match losing streak whilst Marine look to consolidate a play-off berth which is almost assured.

Marine’s progress and development as club in recent times is something we aspire to and, as we approach the 40th anniversary of our President’s Cup triumph at their expense, we envy their achievements.

That said, we will still be doing our utmost to improve our topsy-turvy record this term by picking up points in our 38th game.

Marine go into the fixture in 4th position with 67 points from their twenty wins and seven draws.  Danny Grainger’s side are hanging on to 15th place at the moment with 41 points in the bank.

Top scorer, David Symington, is the main doubt for the game after limping out of the County Cup match on Wednesday.  Other than that, the first team players who did turn out against Maryport Athletic came through unscathed, thankfully.

Back in November, the sides shared eight goals in the highest scoring encounter between the clubs, with eight different players getting their names on the scoresheet.
