Farewell father Bill

Fifties hero, Bill Robson, was laid to rest on Friday following his passing, at the age of 87, last week.

In a beautiful service at St. Bridget’s Church, Moresby, Bill was remembered by family, friends, ex. work colleagues and the football fraternity of Cumbria and beyond.

St. Bridget’s Church

There were tears and laughter as hundreds packed the church to say a last good-bye to a person who was a hero to many.

Some wonderful stories were told followed by tributes from family members and acquaintances before a hearty rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

A screen shot of Bill, in front of the altar, was smiling down on the congregation.

Bill was buried next to his late wife, Cilla, in the churchyard.

Thanks for the memories.

  • Bill played 141 competitive matches for Workington, scoring 60 goals in the process, between 1950 and 1959. He played in many memorable games for the Reds and none more so than the 1958 clash against Manchester United in a 3rd Round FA Cup tie.
