Onward Christian soldiers

Sam Christian is one for the future and we all hope he makes continued progress in the next few years of his football journey.

He will certainly remember the last week of the season and his involvement with the first team squad was probably the best way to celebrate your 17th birthday.

He came on as a substitute, on his birthday, in the game at Macclesfield, in front of a near 4,000 crowd at the Leasing.com Stadium, and was also involved in the home match v. Guiseley at the weekend.

In between, he helped the team lift the Cumberland Cup with that deserved victory over Carlisle United.

He was the latest teenager to be given a first team opportunity by outgoing manager, Danny Grainger, one of many in recent years.

But Sam and Danny had crossed paths several years earlier. The then Carlisle United skipper attended an end of the season function at Cockermouth and presented an even younger Sam with an award.

Fast forward eight or nine years and Danny handed the young midfielder his first team debut – another cherished moment.
