The story behind the picture – Workington Lilacs
Our beloved Reds became the Workington Lilacs for one day only eight years ago.
They wore this fetching strip for the one and only time on 21 July, 2012 in a pre-season friendly against Queen of the South, with the match dedicated to the Great North Air Ambulance Charity.
The specially commissioned lilac shirts, complete with the Air Ambulance logo, were auctioned off to supporters in the Social Club after the game helping to raise a grand total of £1500 which was presented to the charity.
The charity extended to the pitch with Reds gifting Queens two first half goals in a comprehensive 2-0 defeat.
It was certainly Queens’ day as one of their directors also won the half-time draw!
