The story behind the picture – Trophy joy at Wimbledon
It’s over ten years ago now but the memory of our FA Trophy success at AFC Wimbledon is as vivid as ever.
It was a special day with the 3rd Round of the FA Trophy pairing us with AFC Wimbledon who were in Conference Premier at the time.
The game took place at Kingsmeadow on 30 January, 2010 with Conference North Reds causing a cup shock by emerging surprise 3-2 winners in front of a 2,301 attendance.
Although twice behind in the game, Nathan Elder’s header and Danny Kedwell’s penalty, Darren Edmondson’s side came storming back to win by the odd goal in five. Jonny Wright twice equalised and Shaun Vipond grabbed a late winner in front of the large away following.
The photograph epitomises that wonderful feeling after pulling off a giant-killing act and actually appeared on the front of the Non-League Paper next day.
