The story behind the picture – Phil lands Player of the month accolade

Phil McLuckie last played for Reds over two years ago before being sidelined with an injury that required surgery.

A fine Workington career had been disrupted with numerous injuries but still achieved so much over his eleven seasons at Borough Park.

One individual highlight was being nominated Blue Square North Player of the Month back in January, 2009 and Phil is pictured receiving his engraved glass memento and bottle of champagne from then chairman, Humphrey Dobie.

Phil had been in fine form at that time and during that particular month helped us to a 3-0 Trophy win at Barrow, a 5-0 home win over Gainsborough Trinity, a 4-1 success at Stalybridge Celtic, played in a narrow 2-1 defeat at Gateshead and a 3-1 Trophy loss to Wrexham. He also scored in the games at Barrow and Gateshead.
