The story behind the picture – Long service award to Billy

Our former grounds-man, the late Billy Watson, is pictured receiving an engraved memento from the Northern Premier League’s Duncan Bayley in recognition of his thirty years service to the club in 1982.

Billy had joined Reds in 1952 and served the club for nearly forty years before retiring in the early nineties.

The Borough Park pitch was his pride and joy and earned the reputation as one of the best playing surfaces in the country during the sixties and seventies.
