The story behind the picture – Familiar faces

The photograph today features some familiar faces when Penrith hosted Reds in a Cumberland Cup quarter final tie at Frenchfield on 24 February, 2016.

In Penrith white are Robbie Hebson and Nathan Waterston with Gari Rowntree and Josh Calvert on duty in Reds’ change outfit.

Robbie is actually caught scoring Penrith’s equaliser in that match despite appearing on the Workington team sheet in games either side of the county cup match.  He was playing for Reds at the time but had featured for Penrith earlier in the competition and switched allegiance on the night.

As with most Workington/Penrith encounters, a number of players on both sides were turning out against their former club.

Despite Robbie’s fine goal, Reds eventually won 2-1 with former Blue, Scott Allison, netting Workington’s winner from the penalty spot.

• Reds progressed to the 2016 Cumberland Cup Final, overcoming Aspatria 4-1 at Brunton Park.
