STATEMENT: Danny Grainger’s red and white army………
We may have lost out on the pitch at a very wet Macclesfield last night but there was no doubt who won the supporters’ choir contest.
About a hundred Workington fans made their way to the Leasing.com Stadium, a fantastic effort for a Tuesday night fixture and, regardless of the outcome, were in the mood to sing and sing and sing.
They bellowed their hearts out, particularly in the second half, with the vocal support given to the team the best for many a year.
Danny Grainger and the players were very grateful for the backing and even the Macclesfield supporters on the opposite side of the ground were very complimentary about the noise generated from one corner of the stadium.
“On behalf of the players and staff, I would like to thank all the fans who travelled last night and never stopped singing despite the score line. We are all very grateful to those who made the long journey and got behind the boys from the first minute to the last,” commented the manager.
The Workington contingent contributed to a fantastic 3,313 attendance, the biggest NPL crowd the Reds have ever played before.
