Soccer century for Scott

Workington’s second goal v. Ramsbottom United on Saturday was rather significant for Scott Allison with the fine left foot drive from the edge of the box his 100th for Reds.

He becomes only the third player during the modern era to score a century of competitive goals for Workington and the sixth to do so in the club’s history.

The catalogue of goals was launched just over six years ago with Scott scoring the only goal of a National North fixture v. Stalybridge Celtic with his less favoured right foot.

And since then his ‘ton’ has been steadily and consistently compiled in seven competitions:

National North   5

Northern Premier League   64

Northern Premier League play-offs   3

FA Cup   7

FA Trophy   9

Northern Premier League Challenge Cup   3

Cumberland Cup   9

His hundred goals have been scored against fifty different clubs with Altrincham, Ashton United, Blyth Spartans, Matlock Town, Rushall Olympic and Stalybridge Celtic his ‘favourite’ opponents with Scott netting five times against each of those.

He has scored five hat-tricks with Colwyn Bay, Kendal Town, Blyth Spartans, Matlock Town and Altrincham all on the receiving end of his scoring prowess.  The threesome against Colwyn Bay was a hat-trick of penalties – a unique achievement from a club perspective – whilst his contribution versus Matlock was a four-goal blast.  But it was the trio against Blyth in the play-off semi-final in 2016 that, in his modest opinion, was his greatest contribution in a red shirt.

And in a portfolio of countless ‘goal-of-the-season’ contenders, Scott’s favourite is the match winner v. Hartlepool United in the FA Trophy tie at Borough Park almost two years ago.

Our ‘Ginger Messi’ has scored a further eighteen goals in pre-season games.
