Danny Grainger will take his squad to Gillford Park on Tuesday and expects a testing ninety minutes against Jim Nichols’ Carlisle City side.
Twelve months ago, Reds recorded a 3-1 victory in the corresponding friendly with Jason Walker and Kieran Maguire (2) scoring their first goals for the club.
Since then, both clubs find themselves in different divisions – City moved laterally to Northern League Division 2 and Reds relegated to Step 4 of the national pyramid. Regardless, the game should provide a decent work-out for the respective managers with Grainger having to go into battle with a handful of players missing due to injury and other commitments.
Reds could be playing against several Workington ‘old boys’ with some of the City squad – Dan Kirkup, David Seggie, Rob McCartney and James Earl to mention four – all spending part of their careers at Borough Park.
Admission is just £2 with kick-off at 7.45pm.
