Second Festival a success

Two weeks ago, Workington Reds staged their inaugural Grassroots Festival at Borough Park catering for the U8 age group and the success of that event has been replicated with local clubs sending their U10s for a second Sunday extravaganza.

Sadly, a family bereavement meant chief organiser, Richard Lewthwaite, was unable to attend the event he meticulously pieced together.

Stepping into the breach were Simon and Glenda Collins and, with the assistance of Steven Rudd, several members of the Development Squad and other club volunteers, the festival ran smoothly throughout the day.

Light rain in the morning didn’t dampen spirits as the various teams enjoyed playing on Borough Park, split into four mini pitches. Bransty were the eventual winners overcoming Reds Juniors in the final whilst Harraby won the Plate competition, getting the better of Maryport in the second final.
