Scott says thanks

Scotty Allison has gone on record to thank the people behind the scenes at Borough Park.

“I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved with the club from top to bottom.  So much hard work has gone in from the players and coaching staff but even more from all the workers and helpers who keep things ticking over.  Thank you everyone,” said Scott after completing his seventh season with Reds.

“We go again next season and I have no doubt that we will be top of the pile again,” he added.

Like us all, our top scorer is missing the football as we all try and adapt to this weird new lifestyle.

“It’s certainly different being at home every day.  No training, no matches it just isn’t right and every day feels like a Sunday.

“I’m not working at the moment although my company are continuing to operate for the time being.  I felt as though I shouldn’t, due to the fact we have a young daughter, so decided it was best to stay at home.  Thankfully, my bosses completely understand and have been very supportive.”

Keeping busy for what are becoming long days for us all is easy with an eighteen month old toddler.

“I’m certainly not bored, not at all.  Every second she is awake is like a training session and keeping her busy takes up most of the day.”

And what about the daily exercise?

“I am lucky that I have plenty of gym equipment at home which has built up over the years so I’ve probably been exercising more than I have ever done before.  Taking the dog for a walk and getting some much needed fresh air is also a daily occurrence.

“I was playing with a couple of niggles in the last few games, with a bit of pain in my left knee, so I’m resting the legs at the moment.  I think I’ll leave it another week or so before starting on the road work.”

With plenty of time to reflect on last season, Scott gives an honest assessment on our highs and lows.

“Our best display was probably the 5-1 demolition of Ramsbottom United at home but the derby day at Kendal Town was, I think, the most enjoyable.  To win against your local rivals so emphatically after the way we played and in front of so many travelling Reds fans was fantastic.  The supporters follow us to every game but the numbers we had for that game were phenomenal.

“Another pleasing performance in my opinion was the home match v. Pontefract.  We weren’t at our best but demonstrated our battling qualities and showed everyone we could get into a ‘fight’ if necessary and come out on top, a quality many didn’t feel we had in our armoury.  That was a pleasing three points after being put under a lot of pressure late in the game.  

“On the other side of the coin, the away games at Pontefract and the return fixture at Ramsbottom were probably our worst two performances.  You cannot win every game sadly but those two games were the biggest at the time.  On both occasions, we were poor in the first half and found ourselves two goals down.  We were much better at Pontefract in the second and probably unlucky to lose but, at Ramsbottom, we were second best for ninety minutes which was very disappointing.”

Scott came close to scoring against Rammy – a decent shot rebounding off the post – and had that gone in he would have equalled the club record of scoring in nine consecutive league games.

“My best personal performance was probably v. Clitheroe at home.  First half hat-tricks don’t come along very often so I would pick that,” he reflected after netting his seventh ‘threesome’ in Workington colours.

“But the best individual performance I witnessed this season was Tinners’ (Conor Tinnion) contribution at Tadcaster.  It wasn’t just the ridiculous goal line clearance and his two goals, all of which were fantastic, but the way he dragged us through almost single handed.”

Scott was on target to finish top scorer in the NPL North West Division, not to mention a potential treble with the team, so a bitter personal disappointment that the 2019-20 was ended so abruptly.

But the ‘Ginger Messi’ is determined to carry on from where he left off as and when football, and normal life, resumes. He has contributed and achieved so much during his time at the club and we hope to see more of the same in a few months time.
