Sam’s silver service recognised
There was a low-key presentation to Sam Smith after Tuesday’s game against Bootle but there is nothing low-key about his loyalty to the club.
In recognition of his 200 appearances for the Reds, Sam was presented with an engraved glass memento by chairman, Dave Bowden.
The presentation was due to take place on the pitch before kick-off but, due to the late start and the adverse weather, Sam was presented with his award indoors.
Now 28, Sam made his senior debut eight years ago in an FA Trophy tie at Hednesford Town but first came to prominence representing the club in the FA Youth Cup during the 2009-10 season. He went on to become the only player to make 100 appearances for the Reserves in the Lancashire League and has since give distinguished service to the seniors, becoming one of the most consistent members of the squad.
Sam’s 200th start (he also has 75 appearances as a substitute to his credit) came a couple of months ago when he skippered the side to victory over Market Drayton Town.
