It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Club stalwart, Joan Crellen, who died on Tuesday morning.
A loyal supporter of the club since the fifties, Joan turned up for the Reds’ match on New Year’s Day but took ill and was admitted to hospital where, sadly, she died.
Joan became the secretary of the Workington Reds Supporters Association in 1973 and was proud of the fact that the club attracted interest from all over the world.
That was the first of many roles with the club including office manager, kit lady, accountant and various other tasks.
During the nineties she became the first female member of the Board, serving for several years.
An eloquent speaker, Joan appeared on radio and television several times as a club spokesman always displaying her passion for the club.
She is survived by sons Andrew and Peter and daughter Joanne.
The club sends condolences to Joan’s family and friends.
