Rock royalty at Reds

It’s not often we have had a genuine world super-star in the directors’ box at Borough Park but that changed in 1976 when Elton John watched his Watford team win at Workington.

Reds played Watford four times during Elton’s early years of involvement at Vicarage Road with the Hornets winning all four matches.

He was appointed chairman before his 30th birthday, becoming the youngest, most famous figurehead in Watford’s history.

After taking sandwiches, tea and biscuits in the Boardroom, Elton popped into the Reds Social Club before his departure.
