
Review of the Season (in numbers)
Just about time to draw a line under the 2021-22 campaign with our review of an excellent season captured by numbers.

One goal from Scott Allison was enough to secure the first pre-season win at Penrith back in July.
Jim Atkinson, our goalkeeper, scored inside one minute in the friendly v. Morpeth Town with the goal, timed at ten seconds, the quickest ever scored at Borough Park.
League goal number one of the new season was netted by Brad Carroll, securing Reds an opening day win at Kidsgrove Athletic.

The number of 4G pitches we played on – at Widnes and Leek Town.
The number of red cards administered – Reuben Jerome (at Colne) and Dan Wordsworth (v. Widnes).
Two players scored hat-tricks during the season, Reuben Jerome scored four goals in a Cumberland Cup tie v. Whitehaven and David Symington netted three v. Newcastle Town in a league fixture.

Reds had to play three periods of extra time, twice v. Marine in the FA Cup and the play-offs and also v. Whitehaven in the Cumberland Cup.
Glossop North End conceded three own-goals in their 5-1 defeat at Borough Park.
Sam Smith collected three trophies at the end of season Presentation Evening.

Four players captained the side during the season, Conor Tinnion (27), Scott Allison (1), Sam Smith (6) and Brad Carroll (11).

Reds suffered just four league defeats – two at home (Runcorn Linnets and Widnes) and two away (Warrington Rylands and Marine).

Chris Willcock became the first Workington manager to win his first five league matches in charge.

Taylor Charters (Carlisle United), Aaran Bradbury (Carlisle City), Niall Cowperthwaite and Rob Wilson (Lancaster City) and David Lynch (Marine) were the five former Reds players who scored against us.
Five league matches saw players score after being introduced to the game as a substitute: Reuben Jerome (Mossley), Nic Evangelinos (Bootle), Scott Fenwick (Runcorn Linnets), Scott Allison (Trafford) and Reuben Jerome (Market Drayton Town).

Reds recorded six consecutive league wins on the road between 6 November and 29 January.

The team conceded seven penalties throughout the campaign, six of those were converted and one hit the crossbar.

Eight league doubles were recorded against Kidsgrove Athletic (5-0 and 1-0), City of Liverpool (3-0 and 2-0), Clitheroe (1-0 and 2-0), Ramsbottom United (1-0 and 1-0), Glossop North End (5-1and 3-1), Mossley (2-0 and 1-0), Colne (2-0 and 3-0) and Kendal Town (2-0 and 3-1).
Eight opponents received red cards in matches against Workington with Kidsgrove Athletic and Glossop North End both reduced to nine men at Borough Park.

We were awarded twelve penalties throughout the season, nine were converted: Nic Evangelinos, Rowan Roache (2), Steven Rigg (2), Reuben Jerome, David Symington (2), Scott Fenwick whilst three were saved: Reuben, Steven and Dav all cursing the opposition goalkeeper!

Reds were unbeaten for thirteen league games between 6 November and 5 February, an impressive sequence that began with a victory at Mossley and ended after a victory against the same opposition at Borough Park: WWWDWWWWWWWWW

Dav Symington ended the campaign as top scorer (nine at home, five away) in the League with the fourteenth goal his 50th for the club.

Reuben Jerome finished the campaign with fifteen goals, nine in the league and six in the Cumberland Cup.
