Relegation buddies in good shape
It is only seven months since Workington and Marine accompanied each other through the relegation trap door to become founder members of the newly formed North West Division.
And both are making a determined bid to bounce back at the first attempt having made good starts to their respective campaigns at Step 4 level.
Saturday’s clash at Borough Park brings the two clubs together in another top-of-the-table encounter with leaders Reds hosting fourth place Marine. The visitors are four points behind Danny Grainger’s side but do have a game in hand, illustrating the importance of the fixture.
Whilst Reds’ relegation in April was rubber-stamped well before the end of the season, Marine actually suffered demotion on the final day when the odds of staying up were in their favour.
The clubs have been rivals for forty years and, although we have won seven of the last ten league meetings, the head-to-head confirms that Marine still hold the bragging rights having won eleven matches compared to Reds ten victories (with nine games drawn) in the thirty league games played.
Reds will be near to full strength with just Brad Carroll, a scorer in our 2-0 win at Crosby earlier this year, and Gari Rowntree still on the injured list.
- Before the action gets underway on Saturday (3pm), manager Danny Grainger and Steven Rudd will meet supporters in the Tony Hopper Bar on Friday evening (7pm) and will be in a position to deliver some good news to supporters prior to a Question & Answer session.
