Reds to host Morecambe

EFL side Morecambe will make a second visit to Borough Park in two years when they travel up the coast for a July friendly.

Derek Adams’ squad, recently relegated to League Two, will travel to Borough Park for pre-season action on Tuesday 11 July, 2023.

Reds travelled to the Mazuma Stadium in 2020 (and lost 1-0) with Morecambe visiting West Cumbria the following year (winning 5-1) so next month’s encounter will be the third pre-season meeting in recent times.

Workington and Morecambe were regular opponents in the Northern Premier League between 1977 and 1988 but all matches between the two since have been in summer friendlies.

Although Morecambe won three and drew one of their last five games, they couldn’t avoid relegation and, after a two season stay in League One, effectively swap places with promoted Carlisle United.

Morecambe were elected to the EFL in 2007. So far, Reds have confirmed home games against Dumbarton and Morecambe as well as arranging away matches at Whitehaven, Whitley Bay and Ashington.
