Reds register Rigg

Steven Rigg, 29 last week, has joined Workington for a second time and played against one of his former clubs, Penrith, in Reds’ first pre-season outing.

The Keswick born striker first played for his hometown club before scoring prolifically for Penrith over two seasons.  That earned him a deal at Carlisle United and he netted on his Football League debut for them in a two season stay at Brunton Park.

A loan move to Barrow didn’t work out as he sustained a serious injury in his first outing.

He then had a spell with Queen of the South and scored for the Dumfries outfit in a pre-season game at Borough Park five years ago.  Riggy’s first spell with Reds ended a frustrating period at Chorley when he joined us in March, 2018.

And a scoring start helped the team to a surprise win at Altrincham with his debut capped by an 80th minute winner.  He netted two more in an equally impressive victory at Stourbridge and bagged another in a success at Stalybridge – four goals in thirteen NPL appearances.

A stint in America followed before he returned to play in the National League first for Gateshead and, most recently, Dover Athletic.

Steven has trained with the squad for the past three weeks and quickly settled in to the group.
