Save The Reds: global fundraiser launched for centenary season in spirit of Shankly

“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death… I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.” – Bill Shankly

Yesterday, we launched a unique global fundraiser to help save our club at this vulnerable time due to COVID-19’s catastrophic impact.

We are hoping that the spirit of our great former Shankly, also of Carlisle United and most famously Liverpool, can attract football supporters to kindly donate.

We, unlike the reds in Merseyside, were denied a league title in 2019-20 and face financial uncertainty due to fans not coming through the gates of our stadium, Borough Park.

At worst, we could be looking at a £75,000 shortfall if football at our level returns behind closed doors for our 100th year.

Chairman Les Byers said: “The initial fundraising we’ve done has been brilliant, that will get us through the summer but we aren’t out of the woods yet.

“We rely on the income from the FA and the FA Trophy prize money is likely to be less this year. There’s a large amount of work we still need to do on our ground to maintain our safety certificate.”

“We’ve continued to pay our players and employees 100 percent of their wages and we’ve done a cash flow analysis, it shows that by the end of the year we’ll suffer a loss.”
