Reds Ladies Progress: Durham United Ladies 1-4 Workington Reds Ladies

Reds Ladies made a winning start to their Vitality Women’s FA Cup campaign, coming from a goal down to win emphatically in the north east.

Durham had opened the scoring when their quick striker broke through Reds’ rearguard to score after five minutes.

It took Reds a further twenty minutes to get back on terms and a sweetly struck half volley from Chloe Henderson changed the pattern of the game.

They went in front for the first time with a fine goal via a corner, eight minutes before the interval.  Linzi Donaldson floated the ball into the area where Hayley Bracken timed her run to perfection and headed home.

The half time belief was that the game was there for the taking and the victory was just about assured when they scored a third just minutes after the restart.  And it was skipper Donaldson who rifled home a twenty five yard free kick to put Workington well and truly in control.

Bracken headed home her second, Reds’ fourth, almost immediately to establish an unassailable lead with forty minutes remaining.

Durham did come to life in the later stages but their best spell of the game failed to trouble a solid Reds defence and they managed the game well to secure their passage into the next round. And their reward for the comprehensive victory is another trip along the A66 and a game at Hartlepool United.
