Reds’ favourite departs
The club can confirm the Reds fan favourite Reuben Jerome won’t be returning next season.
Danny added, “I would like to personally thank Reuben for his outstanding commitment to the football club, he never missed training or games and we all know geographically that can’t be underestimated and he will be a huge miss for us all. He has decided that now is the right time for him personally to play his football closer to home. What Reuben has given to the football club on and off the pitch has been amazing and will never be forgotten and I’m delighted we finally achieved what I brought him to the club for which was promotion. I wish him all the best in the next part of his career.
Jerome commented, “I’d like to thank Danny for giving me the opportunity to come and play for the Reds. Playing with the group of players I have has been the most enjoyable time I’ve had in a long time. I also would like to thank the fans for the support they’ve shown me from the moment I arrived. We’ve enjoyed some good times together and some even better celebrations. I’m happy we achieved the promotion the club deserved and I wish the club all the best in the future.”
Reuben joined Reds in the summer of 2020 and has just completed his third season with the club.
He made his debut in a friendly at Carlisle City and, although marking his first game with a goal, he also had the misfortune to have two penalties saved in the same match.
His first Borough Park goals came via a hat-trick netted against Cleator Moor Celtic, in another pre-season fixture, with his first competitive goals scored against Pickering Town (league) and Radcliffe (FA Cup).
Reuben’s first season with the club was the second interrupted through Covid but in twelve starts he netted 8 goals and has been a fans’ favourite ever since.
Playing under Chris Wilcock for the second time, Reuben netted nine league goals and six in the Cumberland Cup during the ’21-22 campaign, including four against Whitehaven, to finish top scorer overall.
He scored a dozen in the league (fifteen in total) in the season just ended, helping the club to promotion via the play-offs.
In total, Reuben has scored 38 goals in league and cup from 66 starts plus a further 29 as a substitute.
In addition, he scored a further eight goals in eighteen outings in non-competitive matches (friendlies).
