Pre-season launched
Seven weeks after the painful play-off defeat to Marine, Reds kicked-off their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign when pre-season training got underway at Penrith.
Returning manager, Danny Grainger, welcomed twenty-two players to the first session including new recruits Lewis Reilly and Ben Hughes, both of whom part of that Marine squad which broke Workington hearts back in April.
Fellow new signing, Greg McCaragher, was also introduced to the group for the first time and his fitness levels in the running drills created an immediate impression.
Several trialists and three members of last season’s Development team joined the remnants of the senior squad for the two and half hour session and the only notable absentees were Matty Clarke and Keelan Leslie.
It was an earlier than usual start for the squad who play the traditional curtain-raiser at Whitehaven next week, the first of seven scheduled friendlies.
