On this day – 27 March
Looking through the archives to see what was happening to Reds on 27 March in previous years………..
Our biggest win on this day was back in 1930 when Reds inflicted an 8-2 defeat upon Shildon with Jack Thom helping himself to four of the goals in a North Eastern League fixture.
Another four-goal haul from Jackie Oakes in a 1948 6-0 triumph over Hartlepools United Reserves, again in the NEL.
There was a near 10,000 gate inside Borough Park for the 1954 clash against Barrow with Jimmy Dailey scoring Reds goal in a 1-1 draw. At the end of that season (’53-54), Barrow finished 12th, Carlisle United 13th with Reds trailing behind in 20th.
Reds experienced a busy Easter in 1964, hosting Bradford Park Avenue (1-1) on Good Friday 27th, then facing Bradford City (1-0) next day, also at home, before travelling to Bradford PA (0-1) for the return on Easter Monday.
Other results on this day:
1959 York City away 2-2 (Blackman, 2)
1967 Scunthorpe United away 1-4 (Spratt)
1972 Brentford away 0-2
1976 Bournemouth away 0-1
1982 Lancaster City home 3-2 (Smith, 2, Harris)
1984 Oswestry Town home 3-4 (Harrison, Reach, Gill)
1993 Eastwood Town away 1-0 (Campbell)
2004 Lincoln United (away) 0-1
2010 Hinckley United (away) 2-1(Arnison, 2)
And two years ago we drew 1-1 at Warrington Town with Dav Symington netting a second-half equaliser.
