On this day – 21 July
Remembering Reds’ pre-season matches played on the 21st July in recent years……………..
2018
Reds shared six goals with Consett (pictured above) two years ago in an entertaining friendly played at Borough Park.
The Northern League outfit certainly dominated the first half and established a 3-2 lead at the break, but a stunning Conor Tinnion free kick salvaged a draw for below par Reds.
Ellis Pearson, with his first goal for the club, and Matty Douglas scored our goals in the first half but Consett scored three crackers of their own to turn around in front.
2015
Conor was also amongst the goals three years earlier in a 2-0 victory over Carlisle City at the Sheepmount. It was goalless at half time but our two super-subs, Conor and Anthony Wright, found the target to break the deadlock.
2012
We welcomed Queen of the South to Borough Park and not only did the Dumfries side win the match, one of their directors won the half time draw!
Willie Gibson was nominated man-of-the-match and he and Danny Carmichael were two of the Queens squad with Reds connections.
Two first half goals secured a comfortable 2-0 success for the visitors.
2011
David Hewson skippered a Reds team full of future Workington captains (Taylor, Wright A, Wright J, Wordsworth, Andrews, McLuckie, Hopper and Simpson) in a home match against Gateshead.
But, despite the obvious wealth of leadership qualities, we lost the match after conceding two first half goals.
Decent opposition, disappointing attendance with just 122 spectators passing through the turnstiles.
2007
Reds travelled to Tow Law Town for a Saturday afternoon fixture having played at home the previous night.
We looked jaded, though, and the hosts, who included former Reds winger, Mark Eccles, established a 3-0 interval lead.
Derek Townsley’s superb twenty-five-yard strike in the second half was scant consolation.
